A Very Saturated Sidebar
It’s been a long time coming, but I am now a Liblogger!
I hope that none of my faithfuls are overly disappointed with this mutation, and I can assure them that I don’t plan to change my angle because of it. Rather, as always, the Catalytic Corral will continue on with its usual pink-necked overtures, rarely stopping to consider the wider implications. If all goes as planned, the only difference anyone should notice is an increase in traffic and maybe the occasional visitor with some encouraging words for my liberal ass!
A couple of other things worth some consideration:
I don’t really keep up on the official Liberal Party talking pieces, so I reckon I am poorly positioned to be spouting them.
Also, although I am a liberal from Alberta (and a member of the federal party,) I am not a member of the Alberta Liberal Party. I am actually a member of the Progressive Conservative Association of Alberta, and to my knowledge, the only active Albertan in both outfits (much to the dismay of my friends and colleagues on both sides of the divide.) Reconcile this paradox however you see fit. I am what I am, among other things...

Welcome, my liberal friend.
No, there is nothing wrong with being a federal liberal, while supporting progressive conservatives closer to home.
Remember: there is no more progressive conservative party at the federal level (that one was destroyed by the merger with the right-wingers of the Alliance gang). In many ways, progressive conservative ideas are much closer to what the federal libs stand for, which is why a lot of former progressive conservatives have switched to the libs at the federal level.

Yeah, it's something like that.

Sen, we should start our own party. Me, you, Ryan, we could totally kick ass.

(Well, there are only two other Albertan members of the federal Liberal party. ;)
I don't see that it needs much reconciling. I do recall (when I was living in BC for a few years) the vast majority of the populace voting NDP provincially, and Reform federally. Reconcile that.
(Of course, in BC, they don't so much vote for people as against them.)
Incidently, in light of this little announcement, allow me to dedicate a certain blog entry to you. ;)

That's the plan dave.
I haven't worked out the fine points yet, but naturally our party would disrtibute provincial resource royalties among the already wealthy, create a cascade of social programs never before imagined (operated through a ponzi-like scheme of deficit financing,) and of course, call upon Canadians to live their lives in strict adherence to Qu'ranic law?
(Just a couple of ideas that I've been floating with the people as I've been doing the BBQ circuit.) So far I'd say the response has been pretty positive!
